Generator Maintenance: Why Consistent Service is the Key to Performance

Generator Maintenance Overview

A PowerTech generator is a significant investment, whether you’re relying on it for mobile medical operations, food trucks, luxury coaches, or mobile command units. Just like any engine-powered equipment, it performs best when it’s properly maintained. Consistent generator maintenance isn’t just recommended, it’s essential.

In this blog, we’ll break down the importance of generator maintenance, how to maintain optimal performance, and the service intervals you should follow to ensure long-term reliability. Whether you’re new to generator upkeep or want a refresher, this guide offers simple, actionable advice you can count on.

Why Generator Maintenance Matters

1. Reliability

When It Counts A well-maintained generator is far more likely to perform without issues when you need it most. Skipping oil changes or forgetting to inspect belts can lead to costly breakdowns—often at the worst times.

2. Engine Longevity

Dirty oil and clogged filters increase wear on internal engine components. By staying on top of oil and filter changes, you help extend the life of your generator.

3. Fuel Efficiency

Routine maintenance helps your generator run more efficiently, burning fuel more cleanly and delivering consistent power without unnecessary waste.

4. Warranty Compliance

Most generator warranties require a documented maintenance schedule. Missing recommended intervals can void your warranty coverage.

5. Safety and Performance

Unchecked coolant levels, worn hoses, or corroded mounts can create unsafe conditions. Regular inspections help prevent dangerous situations and poor generator performance.

PowerTech Maintenance Intervals

PowerTech Generators are built for performance, but even the best-built machines need regular attention. Here are the recommended service intervals:

First 50 Hours:

This initial service is critical to remove any break-in debris that may have built up during the generator’s first operating hours.

Every 100 Hours:

Every 500 Hours:

Note: Visually inspect the air filter regularly. If your generator operates in dusty or dirty environments, the air filter may need to be replaced before the 500-hour mark.

Before Every Start:

Important! Always check coolant levels directly in the radiator, not just the overflow bottle. There should always be at least half an inch of coolant in the overflow bottle. When topping off, add coolant directly to the radiator.
